Plant your own tree

Our Apple tree

About 10 years ago we moved in to our new house. We were given a sapling apple tree. It took a couple of years to grow enough to give us apples (about ten, then a few more each year) and is now really taking hold!

In the last couple of years we have had nearly 100 apples. The tree was going to fall over so I trimmed it back this spring and hopefully it will support itself now. I will give it some support with a wooden prop I made.

I was reminded of my tree when reading from Letters to the Earth yesterday. This quote was referenced:

“Anybody can dig a hole and plant a tree. But make sure it survives. You have to nurture it, you have to water it, you have to keep at it until it becomes rooted so it can take care of itself. There are so many enemies of trees.”

I will make sure it is rooted and continue to nurture it. And plant another! Jon
